Never did I think that it being too sunny would mean long days stuck inside. Alas it is too Sunny (I know, it’s a rough life) to spend any significant amount outside here in loverly Texas. So, what do we do when we’re stuck inside? WE CRAFT! Started with making playdough. Then salt dough and I made this little jewelry dish I kept seeing on Pinterest. I knew that I’d probably never get the special clay, but salt dough, why not? Now I think we’ll make jewelry, ornaments, perhaps play tea sets and the possibility are endless.
Salt Dough Recipe (loose recipe)
2-cups Flour
1-cup Salt
1-cup H2o (add more if still not forming into dough)
Mix. Knead it. Roll it. Mark it with a B & THROW it the oven for baby and me. @200 degrees for a few hours until dry. I impressed a doily before baking this bowl. Paint then seal after it’s cooled. Oh and the kids love this too.

That’s a lovely bowl!
I was wondering, if you were to make a larger bowl out of salt dough if it would be safe to eat out of and wash?
Thanks for the recipe and inspiration!

Hi Heather,
Thanks! It would need to be sealed somehow. My bowl will be sealed with varnish (Not Food Safe). I would say in order to be used as a regular food bowl, probably not. You’d need a kiln to glaze it and even that I don’t think the salt-dough would hold up to that kind heat.
Thanks for stopping by PhotogHer :o)
Hope you get Craftaaayyyy real soon.
Take Care,
