{176/366 | Texx} Faceless

When I saw this picture I instantly thought of the faceless dolls from the Dominican Republic. My father is from the DR and my parents have one of these symbolic faceless ceramic figurines (which I’ve admired my entire life). The stories from some people living in DR is that the dolls represent the women selling products door to door in their towns and cities. These ladies also called Machantas  (Merchant) knew each of the households and their usual purchases. They remain forever nameless and faceless to all the housewives who bought their products. To honor the Machantas they made these dolls. There are other stories of the faceless doll representing vast diversity of Dominicans and all the ethnic diversity.

For me these dolls symbolize women. All the women from around the globe, whose stories have yet to be told. We are all connected  in this great universe. Those who came before and those who will come after, we all stand beneath these stars. Some of us share the same struggles & the same joys, but we all share this connection. So, I thought “how fitting” when this long exposure made me faceless.

Today I was the guest blogger at the awesome BootsandTea.com  (click here to check out my post ).

My first attempt at using bulb, this photo was an 84 second exposure. The stars at night DO shine bright, deep in the heart of Texas! The little patch of white in the sky is the Milky Way.

Howdy! Obsessed with all things photography. Love to teach, and heal through this art. #photogHER2Day Coming to you from Austin, Tx. Above all else (and it's a lot) I'm Mom to Abby & Atlas. Married to my greatest supporter and friend, Curt. Everyday, I choose gratitude over grief.  #MakeTheTime to create for me, so I can be the very best for all those in my life. My "Why": 10 years ago I lost my brother. He was my best friend, my mentor, my compass.  He got sick out of the blue at the 30 years-old and was an inspiration to many. He traveled the world and never had many images to show for it all. I cherish ALL the images we have of Rafael. Blurry or not, I only wish we had more. I capture images of my everyday. Obssessed with capturing moments of my children, of my life and even my businesses. I believe the only thing that seperates a good image from a great image is its ability to tell a story and ultimately make you, the viewer, feel something.
