Holiday candy makes me happy.  It doesn’t take much.  Candy corn, candy canes, you name it.  I forget it exists and then it’s in front of me at the store and I’m giddy.  Today I bought my first (yes, first) bag of Valentine hearts and I have to say the messages are getting a bit icy.

I get it, they need to stay hip, happenin’, jive.  But why “No Way”?  That’s harsh man.  On a pink heart no less.  Is that supposed to soften the blow?  Why not follow it up with a green “LOL” just to rub salt in the wound.  I have to say I prefer the classic “Be Mine” to the modern “Text Me,” which just seems like lazy courtin’.  I would counter with a purple “See Ya” at that point.  Or perhaps an orange “Get Real.”  I’m worried what these hearts will say in the next few years.  Lawd knows I’ll still buy them.  Until Easter, then I’m onto Peeps.
