{5/366 | JJ} Connection and Hope

This basket was made by a woman named Jeanne, who lives in Rawanda. She is a 37 yo widow who cares for her own child and her niece who was orphaned during the genocide.  She lost her mother and her three brothers during that time as well.  The sale of her beautifully handmade wares helps her provide for her immediate and extended family.  Whether it is something small, or something big, giving is so rewarding to all involved, and also inspiration for those who witness.  I am continuously in awe of the beauty, heart, and generosity of  many people I’m blessed to have in my life.

Jeanne's basket

Hi,  I'm Jen. I am a natural light family portrait photographer serving the north Olympic peninsula. I love babies, capturing joy, and running around with my two energetic boys. Sunsets, fields of grass or fireweed, rivers, the ocean, my family and friends feed my soul. And also grande nonfat lattes with a pack of sugar....

What a great shot! Love the lines, and such a powerful story.
I can’t even fathom what it’d be like to be in that kind of reality. Those who live here, from all walks of life, don’t have to worry about atrocities such as the genocide & mass rapes of Rowanda- that created an entire generation of people.
It makes me view this life, with eternal gratitude: ~ For the most basic of rights (that so many of us take for granted each day) ~For the amazing people in my life ~For those who’ve walked before me and those who will walk after.
I have faith in humanity and someday (probably not in my lifetime), but someday we’ll be a truly united world. No borders, just people coexisting, sharing their life’s story, learning & respecting one another.
