I decided to try Texx’s macro-on-the-cheapo.  I couldn’t tinker with it as much as I would have liked, but it was super entertaining for the bit I did get to play.   My subject was a  toy that the Hubs played with when he was a mere mini-he.  I posted the before and after, although I cropped the before a touch because it was too centered and it bugged me.  And you’re at my mercy, so there.  Booya.
